Since Landon has decided he is afraid of the dark, I have been looking for ideas to help him feel more comfortable. I tried monster spray – which ended up all over my bed, his bed and the floor. We have night lights, music makers and tons of stuffed animals. All failed. And y’all know how much I love Pinterest, so I decided to try my hand at a DIY lantern. It was actually pretty fun and super cheap to make…
I got the spaghetti jar at HEB for dinner, I just cleaned and saved the jar. The glow sticks and glue sticks were only $1 at Dollar Tree. The glitter was from Christmas time, on sale at Hobby Lobby for under .20 cents and the glue gun was around $3. If you’re a crafter, then you probably already have the glue gun, glue and glitter.
What You Need:
Clean spaghetti jar (or mason jar) $2
Glow sticks $1 for 10 (I only used 3)
Glitter (On sale at Hobby Lobby for $0.14 – yes, 14 cents!!) .14 cents
Hot glue gun $3
Hot glue $1
What You Do:
- Clean your jar and remove the label. I just let my jar sit in warm soapy water for 30 minutes then rubbed away the label.
- Once my jar was completely dry, I took my glue sticks and snapped them and shook them so they started glowing. Cut the ends off and let the glow goo drip into the spaghetti jar.
- Once you have completely drained out the glue sticks, add some glitter. I used about 1TBSPN (I didn’t measure, just poured some) of glitter.
- Take your glue gun and glue the lid onto the jar. Shake your jar so the glitter and glow goo cover the entire jar.
That’t it! This only lasted for about 8 hours, then it stopped glowing. So this isn’t something that will be forever, but it is definitely fun and easy. If you make this fun craft, make sure you share pictures on my Facebook Page or Tweet Me!
